Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. I notice that Culligan has quite a few filter systems in their range. Which Culligan filter is best for me?
- A. When choosing which water filter to buy, you firstly need to decide what type of filter will best suit your needs. Culligan has a range of systems available from single cartridge systems that remove chlorine and particles down to 0.5 microns, to more advanced reverse osmosis systems that remove nearly everything from the water! - Q. If we have another water crisis like the last one in Sydney, will I have to boil my water if I am using a Culligan filter?
- A. No, Culligan filters are tested and certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) as well as under local Australian standards (AS/NZS 3497) for the effective removal of Cryptosporidium and Giardia cysts.
- Q. How often does my Culligan system need to be serviced?
- A. Most Culligan filter systems will provide a year’s worth of drinking water for an average sized family before the filter/s in the system need changing. Obviously factors such as amount of usage, water temperature and pressure can all play an important role in determining and impacting the life of a filter. It is recommended that filters be changed at least once a year for optimum performance.
- Q. I have not used my Culligan filter system much over the past 12 months. Does it still need to be serviced / have the filters changed?
- A. Yes. It is important that all drinking water systems are serviced with filters changed every 12 months regardless of how much they have been used. This ensures that contaminants do not build up inside the cartridges, allowing the system to perform at an optimum level.
- Q. Do Culligan filters come with a Money Back Guarantee?
- A. Yes. We are so confident that you will absolutely love your Culligan system that we provide an unconditional 30 Day Money Back Guarantee on every system sold.
- Q. How long does it take to install a Culligan filter?
- A. In most cases, a Culligan filter can be installed by a qualified plumber in less than an hour.
- Q. Do Culligan filters remove fluoride?
- A. Culligan does have reverse osmosis filters in its range (PureFlow) that will remove fluoride from the water, however our standard activated carbon filters such as the EcoFlow and DuoFlow models do not remove fluoride.
- Q. I have a Culligan filter and I noticed that whenever it gets serviced, it seems to make 'cloudy' water for a short time?
- A. This is expected for new filters and after each cartridge change. When a filter cartridge is first put into service, it is full of air, instead of water. As water moves into the filter cartridge, small air bubbles are trapped and released over time. The small bubbles (and the ‘cloudiness’ they cause) go away as you use the new filter, usually in just a day or two.
- Q. What if we move home? Can I take my Culligan filter with me?
- A. Yes you can. Culligan systems can be easily uninstalled and reinstalled at your home.
- Q. Can I get a Culligan system that provides chilled or even boiling water?
- A. Yes you can. Culligan provides a range of compact undersink chillers and boilers that connect easily to your Culligan filter. You can have instant chilled or boiling water that is ‘Culligan Pure’ at the touch of your fingers!
- Q. Can I connect my Culligan filter to my fridge?
- A. In most cases you can. It is done by simply installing a ‘tee’ section from the filtered water line, so that one tube goes to your fridge and the other to the filter tap.
- Q. I’ve heard that “Trihalomethanes” can sometimes be found in the water? Are these harmful, and will a Culligan filter remove them?
A. Trihalomethanes or ‘THMs’ are formed as a by-product when chlorine or bromine is used to disinfect water for drinking. THMs result from the reaction of chlorine and/or bromine with organic matter in the water being treated. The THMs produced may have adverse health effects at high concentrations, and many governments set limits on the amount permissible in drinking water. If you are concerned about THMs, Culligan’s DuoFlow and PureFlow drinking water systems are certified to remove them.
